Medium size, long bill and tail, brownish streaky back, crown and belly russet. Call a rasping twitter. Montane scrub and grasslands. Feeds on nectar and often seen on protea and aloe flowers. Look out for these birds at Crimsonwing Cottage, on the Protea Patch at Witchwood and around Tony’s Tea Shop and Ndundu Lodge.
